The Ministry of Safety and Security is concerned about the large number of applications for side firearms received from the public.
Minister of Safety and Security, Retired Major-General Charles Namoloh said due to the large number of applications for small arms licences, his ministry is thinking of issuing a temporary moratorium on the importing of side firearms.
This means we are arming a nation and we want Parliament and if need be, the public, to support us on this issue, he said.
The minister was speaking at a workshop on ‘Building Knowledge and Capacity towards Regulating Brokers and Brokering Activities in Namibia; and Implementing National, Regional and International Instruments on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALWs)’ at Gross Barmen near Okahandja yesterday.
