A woman and her three-year-old son are believed to have drowned when their shack was swept away by floodwaters in Windhoek Monday night.
The incident occurred in the Abraham Iyambo informal settlement on the outskirts of Hakahana.
A search was conducted Tuesday morning and the body of Saima Thomas, 32, was found.
Her son, Jason Lukas Shindinge’s body had still not been found by Tuesday afternoon.
The Namibian Police Force’s Head of Media Relations, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi confirmed the incident to Nampa on Tuesday, saying the shack stood in a riverbed.
She said there were four occupants in the shack – Thomas and her partner and the couple’s two children aged three years and three days old.
“The man grabbed the baby and ran and the woman and the three-year-old boy were swept away by the water,” Shikwambi said.
The baby has been admitted to hospital and the police and community members are continuing with the search.
