The Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare has opened a bank account for money received from donors.

The Ministry of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare has opened a bank account for money received from donors.
Line Minister Zephania Kameeta said at a media briefing here on Thursday the account is to assist the poor, vulnerable and marginalised people. Donations are welcome from anyone able to assist.
“Poverty is a war that cannot be fought by this ministry alone; we need to assist each other as Namibian people,” he said.
The account at First National Bank of Namibia will facilitate and channel assistance received from donors to the prescribed beneficiaries. The ministry will pay for goods and services directly from suppliers.
Kameeta said demand for assistance is high but resources are limited, hence the ministry has defined areas of support for which the fund will be used.
The fund will cater for payment of construction of shelter for the destitute, vulnerable and marginalised; financial assistance for funerals and other emergencies; construction and improvement of sanitation and water supply facilities; financial assistance for communities to start income-generating projects such as backyard gardens; and financial assistance for clothing and blankets.
Kameeta indicated that the fund was opened with the written approval of Treasury to utilise the money. It will be subject to Treasury regulations, which includes regular auditing and prior authorisation.
There is approximately N.dollars 2.1 million in the fund currently.
The ministry has so far assisted the Nehale Lya Mpingana Constituency in the Oshikoto Region with the drilling of two boreholes at the cost of N.dollars 300 000.
