A 52-year-old lecturer at the University of Namibia’s Katima Mulilo campus was allegedly shot dead by her nephew, who then turned the gun on himself, on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at the Mazova cattle post in the Zambezi Region.
The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for Zambezi, Deputy Commissioner Evans Simasiku told Nampa on Thursday the shooting was prompted by an argument about inheritance.
He said the 22-year-old Samuel Telekelo called his aunt, Agnes Telekelo to the cattle post on Wednesday morning around 10h00 and allegedly demanded his late father's property.
Telekelo was raised by his aunt.
Simasiku said during the argument, he ran to his aunt’s car, grabbed a shotgun and shot her.
Telekelo then drove his aunt’s car towards the Linyanti constituency, stopping about 10 kilometres from the cattle post. He then shot himself in the head.
