RA to rehabilitate Rundu-Divundu road

The Roads Authority (RA) will prioritize the rehabilitation of the Rundu-Divundu road as part of its five-year strategic plan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Conrad Lutombi said.
He said this during a meeting with Kavango East Governor, Samuel Mbambo late last week briefing him about RAs five-year strategic plan recently launched by the Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa.
The CEO said the first priority in terms of their plan for the next five years is to rehabilitate the Rundu-Divundu road which is part of the Trans-Zambezi Highway.
After that, RA will upgrade the remaining section of the gravel road from Divundu to the Muhembo border post to bitumen standard.
Lutombi said RA is also going to carry out a feasibility study of upgrading the Ndonga Linena-Ncaute gravel road which connects to Sikanduko in Rundu, about 156 kilometers, to bitumen standard.
We further prioritize the upgrade from Ncuncuni to Cuma until Mbambi village; the idea is that in future, we will be able to link Cuma to Kaisosi through an upgraded road that will provide access into the inner land villages and farms, he expounded.
In addition, the RA strategic plan involved main projects in Kavango East, including the widening of the Divundu Bridge, which has been completed.
Another key gravel road to be upgraded is the Mungunda-Shakambu of about 37 kilometers.
Lutombi said all these road projects are the RAs key areas of focus for the next five years. However, they are also aware that there are other priorities to link some of the farmers, especially roads like Mutwe go Mbahe, Vicota, Cuma and Ndiyona which links to Khaudum National Park and Mukuni linking to the Trans-Kalahari.
And then we have the Mayongora road which basically is an extension of the Chally cutline from Alex Muranda that will link all the way up to Livayi, continued Lutombi.
The Roads Authority, whose core business is to construct and maintain Namibias roads, also constructed the Chove-Divayi and Kaisosi-Cuma gravel roads. (NAMPA)
