Shilongo appointed new Ohangwena CRO

The Ohangwena Regional Council has appointed Fillipus Shilongo as the Chief Regional Officer (CRO) effective 01 March.
Shilongo, in an interview with Nampa at Oshakati on Thursday, confirmed his appointment, saying he will serve a five year term.
The region has been without a CRO since 2015 after the former CRO, Daniel Kashikola joined the National Assembly as a Swapo Party member and was thereafter appointed as the Deputy Minister of Safety and Security.
Towards the end of last year, Shilongo threatened to sue the Ohangwena Regional Council for failing to appoint him despite the fact that he scored the highest marks in an interview held in Windhoek three years ago.
I am happy that finally justice has prevailed. There were a number of irregularities in the process of recruitment where the reduction of marks (his marks reduced from 93 to 83) and favouritism were experienced, Shilongo narrated.
He, however, declined to shed light on last years media reports that suggested that some members of the council collaborated with the Public Service Commission (PSC) to block his appointment in favour of a female candidate.
Shilongo served as the Acting CRO for Ohangwena after Kashikolas departure. He has been with the Ohangwena Regional Council as the Director of Planning and Development Services since 2008.
Prior to this, Shilongo was employed by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations as National Regional Coordinator responsible for nutrition and food security for the Kunene and Omusati regions.
He was also employed by the Kunene Regional Council as a Deputy Director of Development Planning for a year before joining the Ohangwena Regional Council.
