Ambunda to fight Ridhwan for IBO world title

Paulus Ambunda (right) in action against Moises Flores.

PAULUS Ambunda will take on Muhamad Ridhwan of Singapore for the vacant IBO world super bantamweight title on 29 September.

Ambunda's trainer Immanuel Moses confirmed the news on Saturday, saying that details of the fight still had to be finalised but that it would most probably take place in Singapore.

Ridhwan's professional career started quite late at the age of 28, only two years ago, but since then he has won 11 fights in a row, with six wins coming via knockout.

In the process he also won the IBO International super featherweight title as well as the IBO Inter-continental super featherweight title.

The 37-year-old Ambunda has an impressive record of 26 wins and two defeats, while he won the WBC International Silver super bantamweight title in his last fight against Nasibu Ramadhan of Tanzania in December last year.

Ambunda is a former double world champion, having won the WBO bantamweight world title in 2013 and the IBO World super bantamweight title in 2015.

He lost the latter title to Moises Flores of Mexico in 2016, but it has since become vacant and Ambunda will now have a chance of winning the title for the second time.
