THE HopSol Youth Soccer League got underway over the weekend with hundreds of school children taking part in the opening round of matches at various venues in Windhoek.
The official opening on Friday afternoon went by with little fanfare as Cosmos High School beat Academia Secondary School in an u19 match at an empty Sam Nujoma Stadium.
The next day, however, saw a bevy of activity, especially at the DTS fields in Olympia, where matches took place the whole day in front of enthusiastic parents and supporters.
There were only three matches in the u19 category, with Cosmos and Delta Secondary School Windhoek (DSSW) getting off to winning starts.
DSSW beat Hage Geingob High School 3-2, and Cosmos beat Academia 1-0, while Concordia College and Falcon Football Academy (FFA) battled it out to a 2-2 draw.
In the u17 league, SKW went to the top of the log after a 6-2 victory against Academia, while Cosmos also got off to a winning start, beating FFA 5-3.
St Josephs High School and Ramblers drew 1-1, while Concordia College and Hage Geingob High School drew 0-0.
Cosmos High School went to the top of the u15 log after beating Hage Geingob 3-0, while DTS also got off to a good start, beating MH Greeff Primary School 4-2.
In other u15 matches, Eros Primary School beat Academia 3-2; VRK Football Academy beat Delta Secondary School Windhoek 2-0; Ramblers beat St Josephs 2-1, and Falcon Football Academy (FFA) and SKW drew 3-3.
In the u13 league, Ramblers and SKW both recorded big victories to go to the top of the log.
