TELEVISION rights for Julius 'Blue Machine' Indongo's upcoming world title unification fight against Scotsman Ricky Burns are on sale, the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy announced on Monday.
According to promoter Nestor Tobias, the stable has negotiated a discounted rate to acquire the rights to broadcast the highly anticipated IBF/WBA/IBO Junior welterweight world titles' contest.
“This is a massive fight, and the attention of the world will be on this super fight. The negotiated TV rights for this fight are available for N$500 000,” said Tobias.
Businesses interested in purchasing the TV rights so that Namibians can watch the fight live in Namibia can contact the MTC Sunshine Academy, he said.
Once the money for the TV rights is secured, it will be paid over to Skysports, which owns the rights to the fight, and they will provide NBC with a live signal.
“Whoever pays for the rights can then negotiate with NBC what sort of return on investment they want,” he said.
Over the years, Tobias has feverishly advocated the sale of broadcasting rights of domestic sports events in order to supplement revenue streams.
“We are well aware that so many Namibians want to watch this super fight, and of course not everybody can travel to Scotland because tickets are expensive. We therefore appeal to interested stakeholders to assist the NBC to make it possible for all Namibians to watch the fight live,” remarked Tobias.
Indongo stunned world boxing in December when he knocked out the previously unbeaten and highly-rated Russian Eduard Troyanovsky inside 40 seconds in Moscow.
