Namibia Premier League (NPL) outfit UNAM FC hosted its first ever sports awards last week where it rewarded its players for all their hard work throughout the 2017/18 football season.
UNAM FC who acquired their Premier League status from Ramblers Football Club in 2014 finished fourth in the league and took the runner-up position in the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Debmarine Namibia Cup.
For finishing fourth in the Premier League the club was awarded N.dollars 100 000 and N.dollars 250 000 for being runner-up in the Debmarine Namibia Cup.
During the award ceremony UNAMs Senior Sports Officer Ben Doc Naobeb said he was happy with the clubs achievements after four years in the countrys top-flight football.
When we bought Ramblers Football Clubs status we set up goals for ourselves and one of those goals was to fight for the top five positions in five years, but we did better than that in just three seasons and our goal now is to improve further, he boasted.
Naobeb added that as an institution the club will continue to improve the lives of their athletes and he is hopeful that it will keep on doing well in the countrys top league.
On the day the biggest winners were Marcel Papama and Edmund Kambanda who walked away with five trophies amongst them.
Kambanda was voted UNAMs Players of the Season and Defender of the Season and also shared the Top Goal Scorer award with Tara Katupose for scoring seven goals each for the season.
Papama walked away with the Players Player award as well as the Best Midfielder award.
The Best Forward trophy went to Tara Katupose.
Pandeni Kandjambanga was voted as the best Young Player.
The Most Disciplined Player award went to club captain Heinrich Isaacks.
Team manager Illeni Eto Sakaria told Nampa after the awards that the prize monies that came with the awards could not be revealed.
