Namibia is ready for its first match of the Cosafa women?s championship against Botswana on Wednesday, Assistant Coach Brian van Staden has said.
The 2017 Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) Women?s Championship starts Wednesday and ends 24 September in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
Speaking to Nampa Tuesday after the team completed a training session at the match venue, Barbourfields Stadium, Van Staden said everything is set for the game.
?The girls had a feel of the stadium for 45 minutes,? he said.
Van Staden reiterated his previous assessment of the pitch, saying it was big hence the focus during training was working on keeping the team compact when in a defensive mode and opening play when attacking. The field is 120 metres (m) in length and 80m in width.
Zenatha Coleman sat out the training session for precautionary reasons, while Lorraine Jossop limped off during training, citing some discomfort in her right knee.
Jossop was quickly attended to by team medic Donotha Ngunovandu, who said the discomfort is minor and the player should be considered for Wednesday?s game.
Ngunovandu explained that Coleman will not play against Botswana, because she is under heavy medication for upper respiratory infection.
The medic further said Stacey Naris, Jossop and Thomalina Adams have all recovered well from injuries and will be fit to play.
Meanwhile, Head Coach Brain Isaacs joined the team in Bulawayo just before 13h00 Tuesday, after his arrival was delayed by work commitments in Windhoek.
He immediately joined the technical team for a closed-door meeting, which decided on another training session later on Tuesday.
