NFA Galz & Goals takes Zambezi by storm

THE Namibia Football Association (NFA) Galz & Goals Football and Healthy Lifestyle programme was officially launched at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex on Saturday.
A statement availed to Nampa by the NFA said 568 girls and 42 coaches attended the event.

In attendance were Unicef country representative Markus Betts, NFA first vice president Naftal Ngalanga, Zambezi Region sports officer Ben Luponjani, NFA regional acting chairperson Morris Busundu and representatives from the ministries of health and education.

Prior to the launch, there was a five-day training workshop with 42 teachers, coaches, life skills teachers and community-based volunteer coaches.

The workshop focused on how to integrate life skills and health education into training sessions and how to coach young girls in football through basic coaching courses conducted by Fifa instructor Jacqueline Shipanga.

Speaking at the launch, Katima mayor Georgina Mwiya urged all stakeholders to see such efforts as a step in the right direction and support it in order to ultimately support the Harambee Prosperity Plan.

During the training, opportunities were also availed to adults to visit and make use of voluntary HIV, tuberculosis, and blood pressure testing.

Zambezi Galz & Goals coordinator Boston Likando said he was very happy with the turnout of the girls and coaches that committed to the training workshop leading up to the festival.

He urged the leadership of NFA to support the youth programme for girls and in so doing, they will encourage more girls to spend their time in school and on the sports field instead of going from school to the streets. - Nampa
