YB, Okahandja boost survival chances as Magic lose ground

Young Brazilians Football Club and Okahandja United boosted their survival chances in the MTC Namibia Premier League with hard fought victories on Saturday, as Tura Magic lost ground with the top two title chasing teams.
Young Brazilians were the architects of a 3-1 victory against Tigers at Karasburg, making it three defeats out of three for recently appointed Tigers coach Ali Akan, who was roped in three weeks ago to replace Oubas Mokoena.
Tigers will be hoping to salvage their season by winning the 2019 Standard Bank Cup, where they will play African Stars on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Young Brazilians can move away from the relegation zone if they defeat log-leaders Black Africa in Karasburg on Sunday.
In Okahandja, the home team defeated on-form Tura Magic 4-2 on Saturday, to also boost their survival chances.
Magic had gone for eight matches without losing points, but have now lost their last two matches against BA and United in the space of one week.
Defeat also jeopardises Magic’s chances of finishing third ahead of Mighty Gunners, which would mean them losing out on the N.dollars 300 000 prize money.
Meanwhile on Friday night, University of Namibia beat Julinho Sporting 4-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
The NPL continues on Sunday, with United playing their last home match of the season against Life Fighters, while another relegating candidate Orlando Pirates play Julinho Sporting at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Citizens will then clash with another team facing the chop at the end of the season, Civics, at the same venue.
Eleven Arrows play Mighty Gunners in Walvis Bay before Blue Waters face title-chasing African Stars.
