The Minister of Urban and Rural Development Sophia Shaningwa, hand over a portion of land to National Housing Enterprise to construct 50 houses to the low and middle income people in extension 5 in omuthiya friday.
Speaking at the official ground-breaking ceremony Shaningwa said the construction of houses by the government under the Mass Housing Development Programme and the servicing of land under the Massive Urban Land Servicing Project are not the only interventions being undertaken by Government in the quest to reduce the housing backlog in the country, especially for the low and ultra-low income groups.
The houses are to be constructed by the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) through a public private partnership (PPP) agreement.
The challenges of housing and urban land delivery are not undefeatable if we, government, the private sector and the community pull our resources and efforts together and pursue inclusive, equitable and innovative strategies,” she added.
Shaningwa said this would contribute to the social progression pillar of the Harambee Prosperity Plan and therefore needs to be implemented.
