Government supports community projects at Elim

Omusati regional councillor for the Elim Constituency, Gerhard Shiimi on Monday handed over equipment to community projects as part of Government’s drive to improve the living standards of people in the rural areas.
The equipment, worth more than N.dollars 192 300, included fence poles, wire, gardening and bakery equipment.
Shiimi said the materials are donated through programmes such as Food/Cash for Work, the regional specific action plan, support to rural poor farmers, micro-finance and the rural employment scheme.
The community centres of Onatshiku, Iilunga and Onampila received poles valued at close to N.dollars 60 000 and they are going to construct crush pens.
One of the beneficiaries, Sakaria Nambinga from the Onampila Community Centre told Nampa in an interview on the side-lines of the function that they are going to construct a crush pen where the State Veterinary Services Directorate can vaccinate livestock.
“The veterinary services officials recently asked us to build a better vaccination kraal because our old one is in a dilapidated state,” Nambinga said.
Another beneficiary, Sirkka Nghishongwa from Iihanguti village said she is involved in community gardening. They grow guavas, tomatoes, papaya, chilli, green pepper, pumpkins and maize.
She said they want to start growing cabbage.
Thomas Kanime from Onashiku also received gardening tools, while the bakery equipment went to Iikango Bakery and Granny Rose Investment.
Shiimi revealed that the government in February this year also donated four goats each to six farmers in the constituency to improve their farming activities.
They are Abraham Uunona (Iipumbu village), Petrina Kambidhi (Oshipoteka village), Titus Shaanika (Oshipoteka village), Johannes Akooko (Okaana village), Sofia Jeremia (Oshipya village) and Hilma Kandjambanga (Onashiku village).
