Mines and Energy Minister, Obeth Kandjoze officially inaugurated the Engen Namibia Fuel Depot at Ondangwa in the Oshana Region on Friday.
Engen Namibia invested N.dollars 62 million in the 1.6 million-litre depot that started its operations already in November last year.
It serves retail and commercial customers in the far northern regions of Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto.
Speaking at the event, Kandjoze noted that Engen Namibia has contributed to the reduction of constraints in the fuel supply chain and developed the energy industry in the country by investing the fuel facility.
The company, Kandjoze explained, has also backed Government’s efforts by creating employment opportunities and strengthening the supply and distribution of petroleum products within the country.
According to the minister, the company is also supporting Government programmes in ensuring the energy requirements of the nation are met, especially those of consumers in northern Namibia.
“The depot is strategically located for connection to the new railway and will provide a safer and more reliable supply of products to the inhabitants,” Kandjoze said.
Speaking at the same event, Engen Namibia Managing Director Nangula Hamunyela said with the establishment of this facility, the shortage of fuel supplies previously experienced in this part of the country, especially during the December holidays, will be something of the past.
The Ondangwa depot has created about 10 employment opportunities and is currently supplying 17 service stations in the far northern regions.
