More than N.dollars 1.6 million in cash and pledges was raised on Saturday during a gala dinner held to seek support for the 2017 Eenhana Trade and Business Expo.
The highest amount sponsored was N.dollars 120 000 by Nicodemus Holdings and Subsidiaries, while First National Bank of Namibia sponsored N.dollars 90 000 and Standard Bank N.dollars 50 000.
The expo starts on 28 July and ends 04 August.
Keynote speaker at the gala dinner held at Eenhana, Minister of Economic Planning and Director-General of the National Planning Commission, Tom Alweendo told those present that business, including that conducted by small and medium enterprises, is very important for Namibias economic growth.
Alweendo said the private business sector contributes 85 per cent to job creation.
This is the 10th consecutive year the expo is hosted by the Eenhana Town Council.
Education, Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Anna Nghipondoka and the Chairperson of the Ohangwena Regional Council Erickson Ndawanifa, among others, attended the gala dinner.
