A 27-year-old man accused of murdering a University of Namibia student in Ongwediva appeared before the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he was denied bail.
Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for the Oshana Region, Deputy Commissioner Hilja Haipumbu confirmed to Nampa in an interview that the accused, identified as Paulus Nghipulenga, appeared in court and his case was postponed to 25 March 2019.
Nghipulenga allegedly stabbed the third-year student, aged 22, of the University of Namibia’s Hifikepunye Campus in Ongwediva and she died on the spot at home on Sunday.
The accused allegedly travelled from Windhoek to visit the deceased at the house located opposite the campus, where she resides and looks after for an aunt who is based in Swakopmund.
The incident took place at about 22h00 and the deceased was found dead with five stab wounds on her body.
The suspect left the deceased at the house and handed himself over to the police the same night at about 23h00, Haipumbu told Nampa earlier.
