Ondangwa should use existing infrastructure for investment

Vice President Nangolo Mbumba has urged the Ondangwa Town Council to use its existing infrastructure optimally in order to become an ideal investment destination.
Speaking at the ninth Ondangwa Trade and Industrial Exhibition gala dinner here on Saturday, Mbumba said given that it is the only town in northern Namibia with an airport and train station, it should explore innovative ways to become an economic hub.
He further emphasised that Ondangwa is strategically located on the B1 road, which gives it access to the Ohangwena, Oshana and Oshikoto regions.
“There is a need to implement the investment policy and local economic development strategy as outlined in the council’s strategic plan in order to invite more genuine investors to do business in Ondangwa,” he said.
Mbumba further indicated that the growth of local or regional economies has proven to be a catalyst for genuine sustainable economic development.
At the same occasion, Ondangwa Town Council Chief Executive Officer Ismael Namgongo concurred with the vice president, saying the existing infrastructure should be turned into a meaningful competitive advantage for Ondangwa and the north central region.
He said the overall aim of the trade and industrial exhibition is to motivate businesses and stimulate trading, economic and industrial activities.
“We consider this event to be one of the significant processes aimed at contributing to the development efforts of our beloved town,” he said.
During the gala dinner over N.dollars 600 000 was pledged towards the annual show, which takes place from 29 April to 04 May this year under the theme ‘Embracing economic growth through entrepreneurship’.
