Residents in the Engela Constituency and Ongwediva in the Oshana Region are baffled by dead catfish

Residents in the Engela Constituency and Ongwediva in the Oshana Region are baffled by dead catfish that have washed up on the shores of several dams in the area.

Ohangwena regional councillor for the Engela Constituency, Jason Ndakunda said his office last Friday received reports of dead fish found washed up on the shores of dams in the Ohaingu and Eeshoke villages.

In a telephone interview with Nampa yesterday, Ndakunda said he had conducted a personal investigation over the weekend and found the dead catfish at a dam in Ohaingu village over the weekend.

He appealed to residents to refrain from eating or selling the dead fish to other people because the cause is still unknown.

Engela Hospital authorities and officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources have conducted onsite investigations. They took the samples for laboratory tests and we are waiting for them to come back to us with scientific results, Ndakunda explained.
